stroke survivors
relax
‘be themselves’
How we began
The Northfield Stroke Club club was established in 2008 by our founder member Lesley Pattenson and is managed entirely by volunteers, (operational volunteers to run the weekly clubs and a committee to manage the club and ensure that it is professional and compliant) . The club does not receive any statutory funding but the committee applies for funding for projects and to deliver services to our members.
It is open to anyone who has had a stroke or TIA and their families and carers. We have a varied programme of events and activities throughout the year. All our activities aim to improve the health and wellbeing of stroke survivors care givers and families.
As the Northfield Stroke Club developed it changed it’s name to South Birmingham Stroke Club as our membership grew to include members from across the south areas of Birmingham.
A couple of years ago the Stroke Association asked us to establish a club in east Birmingham as there was a need in the Yardley area. This club is developing slowly to provide a service for those stroke survivors living in the East area of Birmingham.
At our last AGM , the club changed it’s name to South and East Birmingham Stroke Clubs in preparation for charity registration later in 2026.

We’re proudly connected to a wider community of people affected by stroke through the Stroke Association’s Stroke Group Network. This means we’re sharing resources, best practice and expertise with stroke support groups, organisations and individuals across the UK. Learning from each other enables us to deliver the very best support to stroke survivors, their families and carers.
Both of our clubs have been funded by Birmingham City Council’s Neighbourhood Network Schemes.(NNS)
NNS Northfield and Edgbaston have funded us to deliver a project called ‘ARTS4STROKE’ SOUTH
NNS Yardley have funded us to deliver a project called ‘ARTS4STROKE’ EAST
Both projects are going well please visit http://www.arts4stroke.org
